What Our Customers Say
Concrete & Masonry FAQ
The condition of the concrete and the cause of the damage help determine the right approach. Smaller cracks, isolated damage or worn areas may be repairable, while resurfacing can improve a surface that’s still structurally sound. Concrete with significant settlement, widespread cracking, major deterioration or a failing base may need to be removed and replaced. We evaluate the existing concrete before recommending the appropriate service.
A lasting concrete project starts below the finished surface. Depending on the project, the work may include removal of existing material, excavation, grading, preparation of the base, forming, reinforcement, concrete placement, finishing and control joints. We also consider slope and drainage so water moves away from structures and doesn’t collect where it can contribute to future problems.
We work with brick, block and stone for both functional and decorative projects. Our masonry services include new construction and repair work, along with retaining walls and other masonry features around homes and commercial properties. We evaluate the structure, existing materials and intended use before determining how the work should be approached.
Many masonry problems can be repaired without rebuilding the entire structure. Cracked or deteriorated mortar, loose masonry units and isolated damaged areas may be repairable if the surrounding structure remains stable. We also look for movement, water intrusion or other underlying conditions because repairing the visible damage alone may not correct the source of the problem.
That decision comes down to the extent of the deterioration and whether the structure is still stable. Isolated damage can often be repaired, but substantial movement, widespread failure or deteriorated sections that can no longer provide proper support may require partial or complete rebuilding. An on-site evaluation helps determine how much of the existing masonry can reasonably be preserved.
We provide foundation installation and repair services for residential and commercial properties. Signs that should be evaluated include visible foundation cracks, settlement, movement, uneven areas and other changes that may indicate a problem with the structure or the supporting ground. Because similar symptoms can have different causes, we inspect the condition before recommending repair work.
Preparation varies by project, but the existing conditions have to be addressed before new work begins. That can include removing failed material, excavating unsuitable soil, establishing the proper grade, preparing a stable base and accounting for drainage. For masonry work, we also evaluate the condition of adjoining masonry and supporting surfaces so new work isn’t installed over an unresolved problem.
Concrete begins gaining strength after placement but continues curing for several weeks. Light use may be possible much sooner than vehicle traffic or heavier loads, so the timeline varies with the type of project, weather and concrete mix. Masonry also needs adequate time for mortar and related materials to cure. We provide project-specific guidance before the finished area is put into normal use.
